The Marvel Heroes 2016 servers are now back online and the Wealth of Kings County event has begun!

Skelemania Cosmic

I found a whole bunch of cards in a dresser. I have no idea what any of this crap is worth, if anything. Force of Will card game, Versus card game, A Game of Thrones card game, Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering (looks like Shadowmoor era), Harry Potter cards, World of Warcraft cards and an autographed MtG Abeyance print that is numbered 87/1000. Some of these games I don't even recognize... and I used to work in a damn card shop.

  • Dunno when the forum blowover when end because of the announcement but the forums are unreadable to me right now. Total anarchy. I hope this doesn't negatively impact the P.C. version... although it's abundantly clear that it already has from previous design decisions/changes.

      It's delicious!

But yeah, it's kinda obvious it already has adversely effected the PC version. Release of heroes, content drought, etc.
    • Skelemania
      Skelemania
The last few heroes coming out as poorly received as they did to me makes a lot more sense now. It wasn't "here's these new heroes, hope you enjoy them!" It was "we're contractually obligated to release these as part of the advance pack that people pre-paid for so we have to get them out the door no matter what." And it shows.

That's how the entire P.C. version of the game post-BUE has felt. Now we have official confirmation as to why. I'm worried.
    • wotrick
      wotrick
It does give that perception doesn't it?
    • Raijinmeister

Since the release of the BUE, the game seems a big BETA and us, at least who pay attention to the game, knew why.

Today was just the confirmation why the game seems so unpolished now.

Let's see how splitting resources will impact both versions, especially when console gamers be affected as we are by everlasting bugs, something that they are not used since console games are usually better finished. Although the patch mentality is changing this for them too.

The pessimist in my feels like this was an official announcement for the PC players to see the writing on the wall. "By narrowing our focus and scope, the Marvel Heroes team can ensure the best possible experience on console at launch." That says everything that I need to know.

Well, at least the news this time did actually feel impactful. I mean, many of us "knew" this was coming but knowing it's coming & having official confirmation are two different things. It also lays to rest any of the doubters/naysayers that tried to shoot us down in the past about how we were just speculating & how nothing was official. Now it is.

That being said, some of the corporate speak I've been reading on the forums today has me very worried. If I'm able to read between the lines correctly, I'm reading that the PC game is no longer a top priority, the console comes first & those of us that are PC only that have been waiting for new things are going to be waiting even longer. So... I'm not seeing a whole lot of upside or bright side for us. Especially if the console players aren't playing in the same servers as us. So we don't get an increase in population either?

Good for Gazillion if it works out but this feels like they got what they could from us & when we didn't have the revenue stream anymore, we got ditched.

I think Gaz is right that MH on console will be a better game. Not porting costumes, stash, and roster makes me kind of hate them, because the polished console version is the one I want to play.

It doesn't help that they're acting like an estranged boyfriend freezing you out without telling you why. You don't use lawyer-curated language about future content if you're excited about good news.

It makes me wonder whether it's really more efficient and profitable to keep re-selling the same game over and over instead of just, like...developing content updates? Lots of games recycle, but at least they keep the loot treadmill running steady in the meantime.

Idunno. The whole deal feels like they strip mined a market and are moving to the next market to sell the same game for a third time.

Well, I may be a Dev but I am also a hard core, passionate gamer and I feel all of your pain and even though I'm on the inside I can see how you all perceive this as I would also. Someone needs to put the Community at ease and quell their fears, sadly I am not that person. I can only say from the inside, the PC version IS still very important to us and on the character side of things it will be the same for us as the models get ported over to both. I really do hope the console does well as I would like to keep my job, if we did not go that route I may have been unemployed now. I can only hope for the best and hope in time this will all blow over. I am also a little excited as I can finally play our game now and hope to join others!

      Dink hits all the points:

      - acknowledge concerns
      - empathize
      - PC is important
      - content is being created

Gurl, you made that look easy. But you've always been more authentic (for better or worse! Haha) than most devs.

I just wish I could port costumes the way y'all can. >=[

It's refreshing to hear the "I may have been unemployed now" part. Not because I wish that on anyone but because that's real & people can empathize with that. Sometimes, I think some players forget that this is a job & source of income to pay bills for people. That is the sort of communication that I clamor for, not corporate speak or double-talk.

"We're gonna try to target consoles because there's not enough revenue from the current P.C. market & we need a bigger revenue stream to survive." I realize it can't be said because that might scare people into not spending anymore but I'm not sure the way it was handled instead is any better. We basically had radio silence, still have no idea what's on the horizon (other than the console release) & are in a state of limbo. Being told "trust us!" over & over from certain people doesn't work when the trust had already been broken due to failed promises, missed deadlines & lackluster releases.

I still feel BUE was a failure. Was the goal to bring in more customers or to make things easier for a console port though? I'm not sure anymore. If I am being 100% truthful, I feel exceptionally pessimistic about Marvel Heroes on PC in the future.

Sorry, it doesn't change my opinion of this situation. Talented people will find work. The way this is being handled really doesn't honor the loyalty that the PC community has shown this game. If they think we're a difficult bunch, just wait until the console crowd gets their full head of steam.
    • TheDink
      TheDink
My perspective is totally different because well, I'm in the office around everyone. I do know the PC version is just as important, if it were not I don't think we would have gone to console? Not sure but people think (and I can certainly see why) that just because we announced the launch of console we are ceasing all operations on PC. Not true, not even a little bit. I. Hoping now things are announced and slowed down a tad they can start fixing and implementing. If we did nothing, I'm curious how long the PC version could have lasted with all the employees we have now. Also just because you are talented dies not give you a free ticket for a job. It's tough out there, over saturated and very different. Before this job I was unemployed for 5 months, the longest I have ever been unemployed and I was truly scared for my future and being (quite depressed and never want to be there again) when I interviewed at Gaz I was going up against my Lead at Paragon.

I never insinuated that talent provides a free ride. I appreciate your candor, and I have empathy for what you go up against as a developer. That being said, I feel like the conversation around this is turning into something of a personal plea that I'm not really comfortable discussing. It makes me feel like jobs and livelihoods are being used as shields against well-meaning criticism of game direction, and I'm not the best audience for that kind of discussion. I'm not dismissing your point of view, but it's also not something I really should be discussing as a customer.
    • Skelemania
      Skelemania
Yes, at the end of the day, we're still just customers. Customers that voice our concern or displeasure but still customers. Gazillions provides a product. We spent our time & money on the product if we're satisfied with it. Currently, a lot of us are not satisfied with it. That has nothing to do with the personal lives of the employees.
    • Ryven
      Ryven
^ Her point is that customers get more of what they want (costumes) when there are artists to make those things. That's common knowledge, and it's not inappropriate to point out.

It's also pretty bizarre to gaslight someone for discussing a topic (good artists get work) that you brought up. "I'm not really comfortable," "I'm not the best audience," "well-meaning criticism," "it's not something I should be discussing." These statements make it sound as if responding in conversation is weird or inappropriate.
    • Bleachonce
      Bleachonce
I do think it's inappropriate. I also didn't take the topic there, but it's funny that you interpreted it that way. I don't think it's fair to bring that kind of personal stuff into a conversation like this. What that does is put people offering negative criticism for the game in this conversation in a position where they look totally heartless if they stick to their guns and I don't play that.

I totally understand the direction the game is taking. Am I happy? No. Am I considering to stay around? No. My interest is dying slowly. I barely login anymore... and its super sad after having over one thousand hours played just on Steam. I hope the game gets better. But, for now, its not working for me, at all. Like I said on a thread, if it wasn't for the art team, I probably wouldn't even pay attention to the game anymore. All my heroes got either destroyed or in a worse place than before BUE, so it pretty much killed the game for me.
    • Bleachonce
      Bleachonce
It may not have been your intention, but that's basically what happened. It makes "bad guys" out of people who are unhappy with the direction of the game.

@bleachonce: I understand where you're coming from. Of course it would be terrible for criticism to be seen as taboo. Its needed for improvements overall, and Dink more than anyone (Aside from others who regularly communicates with us) knows this. That said, customer or not, we still need to be respectful, which is what everyone who stands with the Dink wants. Manners and respect are suddenly lost with these communities when they do get what they want at the time they want it but see another hero getting what they want. Making false statements that insinuate those working on the game as simply not caring or perhaps as unqualified to handle. Opinions exist, but when expressing them, a certain measure of tact should take place because like it or not, we are not judges, we are customers. Customers don't get a say as to what product should get preference over another. In fact, they don't get a say at all, and have to go somewhere else if they don't like anything. These forums are a chance to communicate and they should be seen as a privilege rather than a right. Gas can listen and determine whether its possible at the time or not, since they have their lists and schedules to deal with. It's not the criticism that is unwelcomed, it's not the attitude. It is the rude way presented to the Devs, something you nor I have problems with, seeing as how respectful you were in your presenting the problem to the Dink. (Not sarcasm at all. I meant every word in the last sentence.)
  • I assume that I'll be looking to migrate to a new video game soon. I'm going to need some new game, with a good community, that I can sink my time & resources into. I was hoping that game was going to be Albion Online but it doesn't look like that game is going to pan out for me in a way that I was hopeful of or anticipating.

I feel like I miss MMORPG games because there's a sense of multiplayer camaraderie that you get which you can never seemingly find in ARPG games. Like, Marvel Heroes still has Supergroups for basically no reason. Although I do find that I play solo a lot, in both types of games, at least in an MMO, there's a reason to have Guilds. Progression, perks & what not.

I have no desire to return to World of Warcraft but I know that my Marvel Heroes time is probably coming to an end. I feel that the new car smell is gone, again, and this time there isn't anything in the future that I can reach for that appeals to me to entice me to keep chugging along.

Anyway, point being, does anyone know of any new/potential games that look exceptionally promising that are on the not-too-distant horizon? Secret World Legends.

It's a relaunch of The Secret World which was AMAZING, but never caught on due to horrible marketing. Modern Horror MMO with great combat. I'll be getting back into it.

I play League and TERA on my downtime. They're fast-paced enough to stay interesting. Slow MMOs and tab-target just don't cut it after playing ARPGs for so long. Blade and Soul was pretty fun, too.

TSW deserved better. I only played it for a hot minute, but I agree with Mags.

FF14 went completely free until level 35 without time restrictions. I started trying it out and fell in love. Finally uninstalled Marvel Heroes for the first time in 3 years last night. The writing on the wall here is evident. Occasionally I leap into Black Desert when I want more fast-paced combat but that's about all it really offers and I dislike the open world PvP at 55+. But those are two good options for ya.
  • Every time I bother to read the Test Center, it's always nothing but nerfs. "X was over performing," "our metrics say," "needed to be brought in line," "reduced," etc. It's so aggravating as a player to constantly see/read that over & over.

Clea has better AoE, and she can still apply Constitution through Shield of the Seraphim and Toughness + Power through Seal of the Vishanti.

Arachne looks great and can apply Vulnerability, what's useful if your build lacks a power or proc that applies it. Between them, I'd definitely go with Clea, unless if you already have Doctor Strange.
