I think Gnome was out of line in the "delete his post and give him some bars" kind of way, but an outright ban seems heavy handed. The only "passionate" comment I can see is still up. https://forums.marvelheroes.com/discussion/comment/4010133/#Comment_4010133
I would like to take this opportunity to clarify, my understanding is this is the way people can get unbanned. Please excuse me if I am talking out of turn.
I'm seeing a lot of commentary here, so let's clear some things up:
-There are no "random bans". I can produce the moderation history of any person who has been permabanned or temporarily banned and any bans, temporary or permanent, have legitimate rule-violating reasons. The idea that we ban arbitrarily because we don't like someone or their opinion is negative is false and it always has been. It is a key guiding principle in our moderation policy not to moderate based on this and every warning is documented if we need to examine a problem.
-Egregiously rule-violating posts can sometimes result in temporary bans. This is what happened in this case. We get frustration, but the level of outright hostility expressed in the post that got this ban is not acceptable, especially after developer response has been given. It is only for a day, though dodging your ban with an alt can result in a ban extension. Let's not do that.
-In the last 2 weeks, we have leveled 8 permabans. 6 of them were for spambots or alternate accounts dodging permanent bans. 2 were for a single person whose entire purpose was to cause problems on the forum. We have issued only 2 temporary bans this week - one for a grossly inappropriate picture and this one. So there is no "conspiracy" and the impression that we have been banning tons of people is mistaken.
-The Code of Conduct will likely be adjusted slightly for some moderation policy adjustments we've been discussing for a while, including reduction of warning level based on time spent without warnings and limited PM correspondence about moderation as an alternative to appeals. We've heard feedback here and that will be reflected in some policy changes.
Normally, I'm not this transparent about a specific violation, but if that's what it takes to clear up some of what people think about how we do things, then so be it. This is the only post I'm making on this issue, so if you have a general concern, you can PM me.
Also, in case it hasn't been clear for what we normally do with these discussions (remove them), please refrain from posting on banned people's walls asking about or discussing why they were banned (this includes "omg u were banned" type posts). Discussion of specific moderation is prohibited on the forum, and that includes walls, in part because of what just happened here. Wild speculation about moderation without context or specific knowledge just leads to mistaken impressions and ideas, and administrative overhead to respond to every public issue about moderation just isn't feasible. There are ways to ask about moderation you have received and to communicate concerns, and they don't include wall posting. Please use them.
Well I think I'm giving up on chasing X-Def/Holo achievements. 100k bosses is just too mind-numbing, even for me. At my current pace, that's 10 months just for X-Def. Probably 2x as long, at least, for Holo Sim.
