I like the part where Lucasfilm promoted the ever-living **** out of Darth Maul. Then the movie comes out and he's in it all of 7 minutes.
    • Aerax
      Aerax
I remember that. Darth Maul was everywhere and he was arguably the most artistically/visually appealing character of the whole franchise.

They should've done more with him. I vaguely remember a darth maul storyline on that wooden cartoon network star wars cartoon.

The main story's have always been Trash Panda! . It's only the small irrelevant characters that have really shone next to the polished turds that have been their main protagonists.

Like Aayla Secura, Adi Gallia, and Asajj Ventress. Deppa Billaba has also been someone that has caught my attention in name only. I swear that XBOX Star Wars game where you play as Obi-Wan was a lot of fun, especially the two player where the announcer says her name in all sincerity. Me and my cousins would be laughing at him saying her name for so long. XD

(I am also quite sure I messed nearly everyone of their names, but I’m too lazy to look them up.)

The beginning is difficult until you get used to the combat and get some upgrades. Once you can mind control orcs, it's amazing. The nemesis system is by far the greatest thing about that game.

The story's meh. The last fight is basically just a glorified QTE. Just...enjoy your orc army and have fun with it.
    • Naxuus
      Naxuus
^Pretty much this. The game is extremely fun once you get the ability to brand orcs. I almost finished it in a couple of days, just need to finish the last boss fight but I keep postponing it so I can clear the whole map.

Damn girlfriend keeps nagging me to finish it and move on, but I don't have the heart to do it.
    • Maggotbreath
      Maggotbreath
It's not finished until you control every single orc captain.
    • Naxuus
      Naxuus
My tactic is simple: I find out who the captains bodyguards are, brand them and have them kill him.
    • BabylonPaladin
      BabylonPaladin
The combat is very much Arkham-like. I've still died twice rather quickly and 2 Orcs were promoted for killing me :(
    • Naxuus
      Naxuus
No worries, that happened to me more times than I'd like to admit. The thing that helped me through it all was gaining intel on every single captain and their bodyguards and a lot of stealth takedowns, a LOT of stealth takedowns and bow headshots.

    • Neverfate
      Neverfate
It's a super easy game. Unless one of the captains is "immune to stealth attacks" or "immune to range attacks" then you have to put in the slightest effort. I just finished a Let's Play of it (well the 2nd half of it - just to take a crack a streaming) but I pretty much skipped every cutscene. Have no idea what the game is even about, but I killed everything so whatever. Time for Shadow of War (that's a lie. BabylonPaladin said: Was it just me, or was Star Trek Beyond the most boring ST movie in the history of...well, everything?

You thought so? I thought it was the closest thing to actual Trek in a long time. I'd put it way ahead of the last TNG outing for sure (low bar, I know). It at least acknowledged the Federation's actual purpose (albeit in a fairly silly opening that did tie into the plot via a McGuffin, but still...) and also had a nice nod toward the itch of command during the 5 year mission. Maybe I was just so relieved it wasn't another remake (Into Darkness) and not just constant plot holes, lens flare (the reboot).

It just felt like Simon Pegg and the other writer actually cared unlike the previous two. Not that it was without issues, mind you. Maybe it was my rock bottom expectations following the first two. Either way, I want them to get back to the Prime timeline.

I think that's what lies at the heart of it for me, as well as my biggest gripe with ST overall. Infinite alternate timelines = weak, lazy writing and constant scenarios where nothing ever truly matters.
    • wotrick
      wotrick
It was fan service so they didn't have to acknowledge certain things from the trek universe. I enjoyed the Trek movies, not saying they are great but at least they aren't Discovery
    • Neverfate
      Neverfate
Star Trek V still exists and honestly I can't remember the differences between Insurrection and Nemesis anymore. Like those scenes are jumbled in my head. To me those are the worst and most boring. Except when Shatner asks what would god need with a star ship and then they subsequently fight god at the center of the galaxy like....ok Shatner you're not allowed to be in charge of anything anymore.
    • BabylonPaladin
      BabylonPaladin
Well, Kirk WAS right. And the fact that it wasn't God but an alien was kinda a cop-out from what could have been a truly ground-breaking story, but I digress.
      .
Nemesis and Insurrection were utterly forgettable and the reason the TNG movies ceased early. :/
      .
But IMO Beyond is right there with them. I looked at my watch more than the screen.
    • ModMentat
      ModMentat
Fair enough. The frequency of "what could have been a truly ground-breaking story" is high enough that it could be an alternate title for the majority of the films, but everyone likes their Trek a bit differently... except for Discovery for most accounts.
    • Raijinmeister
      Raijinmeister
      I haven't watched Beyond so I can't tell.

Said that I still can't compare anything recently done with the old, prime universe, movies. I know the hate for Nemesis but in my view isn't that terrible. A bit rushed but not bad at all.

I will watch The Orville before I watch Discovery. And I'm not watching The Orville.
    • Neverfate
      Neverfate
Seth MacFarlane is the worst part of The Orville. The super date, lazy humor. Oh you've got "guess you don't have to worry about the toilet seat if your species is all male" as a leading joke in the first episode? Pack it in. the Star Trek homage elements aren't terrible, but the humor is cringe inducing and out of place; apparently in the year 2400 or whatever humanity's cultural references and zeitgeists are stuck in MacFarlane's formative years of the 1970s/80s.... what a shock. (I'm rolling my eyes by the way)

They more or less wrapped up that in Star Trek online, Mags.

I know is not a series but the game is the closest thing of an actual ST series with the "Featured Episodes", quests released in a series format, that for when they come "live" for the first time rewards you with special things for a limited time then after a period, more or less 4-5 months they have a "replay" so you can get the rewards again.

Im still trying to figure that one out tbh. They had a solid player base.... they had money coming in before BUE. Why did they do it. Then that failed and they went to Omega. They just dont learn.

Apparently none of them have ever heard the old cliche "If it aint broke, dont fix it!"
    • DreadMAGUS
      DreadMAGUS
Hmmm, personally I've always felt their focus on raids and harder content was to blame. Rather than actually fixing the modes that needed work (x-defense, holosim, etc) - Players NEED diverse content, more than just harder content.... especially if they were trying to tap the casual playerbase.

Granted they gave us Danger Room... but.. well... that didn't exactly go anywhere.....
    • DreadMAGUS
      DreadMAGUS
Though, upon reflection, they really overused those BIG XP weekly events with MASSIVE LOOT BOXES to placate the masses. May as well just dope them up with hookers and blow for all the good fake rewards will ultimately satisfy.
    • Snowraith
      Snowraith
Yeah DR was so blown up then it was released and nobody does it except for the specialty tournements they held.

And the whole massive lootsplosion thig was just annoying considering 99% of the stuff youd get every time was worthless.

I kept hoping theyd revamp X-def and Holosim. I used to LOVE X-def. Thats the way i lvled my first toon to 60...
    • DreadMAGUS
      DreadMAGUS
X-def was fun, I always hoped they'd go back and fix the rewards... which is all it really needed.

Lootsplosions are what started to kill the game for me personally, I probably spent 4 minutes out of every 5 dealing with crap loot and looking at stuff to see if it had any value to me. X_x
    • Snowraith
      Snowraith
Indeed. Same here. I wish theyd get rid of markers on uniques, or at least have an option for it. I hit 10k uniques LONG ago, and dont wanna pick them up just to destroy them since im at cred cap. But i have to so i dont have 50 different markers all over my screen.

It's official. I no longer care about this game until 2020. In the year 2020 I will check back. The only reason I would check back sooner is if Crossout bursts into flames for some reason. Their mega patch (think mini-BUE) turned out totally awesome so I will be there from now on.

Guys (please don't kill me for asking this)
Why all the hate about the BUE? It's the movement build nerf, the summoners nerf or the need to gear heroes from zero?
    • SouleBreaker
      SouleBreaker
That it trashed some characters (Cap being one of them) and that wasn't addressed, that it didn't include the other half of that patch (and it's been over a year now), that some talents pigeon-hole even though they said they wouldn't. The movement nerf doesn't help either because it was put in place to a.) prevent bosses from being taken down too fast in patrols (it hasn't had really any impact, because it's first come, first serve), and b.) for new boss mechanics. Which we don't see anywhere on the horizon.

So the big problem with it is that it was not well done enough and was unfinished.
    • SouleBreaker
      SouleBreaker
Oh and the Infinity System is too basic for a lot of folks.

    • SouleBreaker
      SouleBreaker
Yeah summons are another and that still hasn't been addressed either. I think BUE wouldn't be as hated if the other half had come out on time and if some of the problems the BUE caused had been addressed.

Instead it was all abandoned for console release. And is still abandoned for consoles.
    • SouleBreaker
      SouleBreaker
I think the biggest thing for me was seeing people leave pretty great feedback on the BUE about problems so it wouldn't make it to live and they were ignored.

@Cavalcanti TL; DR the BUE failed. It was all about consolidation, clarity and quality of life. We were asked to reserve judgement for when all systems were finished. Then suddenly the console port was announced, the BUE was finished (God, I will never get over that one), and now they're doing all they can to make us feel like we're starting all over.

In hindsight, most of what we were told, between the BUE announcement and its release, was either nonsense or just not true at all, and all this time our confusion has been treated as short-sightedness. They were just buying time.

Summoners are amazing now so I'm not seeing the nerf people are talking about unless of course you're talking about the BUE limiting summons/hotbar then I can see that issue. Most of the summoners I played were in decent shape though. My complaint is with summoners that don't have the summon tied to another skill so you have to slot the summons on your bar.

The movement changes were a disaster but not for the reason everyone says. I don't mind the limit on how many times we can dash but the flow from point a to point b is horrible. It also seems to vary by character. Maybe it's just the way the dash is animated and they all go the same speed but there are some heroes with a much more fluid dash.

Teleporters got butchered. The artistic feel of their teleports is just gone. Never have I ever seen a character in comics/media that could only teleport 5 feet in front of their face. It kills emersion. In battle it isn't so bad but I feel like teleports should've been handled like travel powers. One for dash and one for constant fluid motion.

And to play devil's advocate here this omega patch is the final stages of the BUE which is why it feels like another refresh on gear/farming. This is all the stuff they should've released after the innitial BUE but didn't.

Idk what this means for the future. They say this is to streamline release and design between all 3 platforms but Gaz is notorious for speaking in half truths. I don't really see this changing the current release schedual.

Will it be easier for them? Yes but I don't see it changing their workload or making them any more efficient at actually releasing content. So I imagine this dry spell will continue until probably around spring if not next summer but by then it may be too late anyway.

Yeah, I don't see any real changes coming either. The reality is that they are a small studio now handling the game on three different platforms.

^^^ They couldn't even deliver qualitity content in a timely manner on 1 platform. Idk what made them think they could handle 3. But when you're broke and desperate you'll do things you never thought you would.

Im starting to think it was all a test run on their part.

Release BUE, release consoles. This system is better for consoles, so it makes sense. Keep funding consoles and growing things there. See how it works on PC. If players like it and keep playing, keep going.

Well most didnt like it, some did. So they decide to keep going at it but not at an efficient or determined rate. Plan Omega, for future release if game is still alive.

And now we are here. Player base has dropped to almost nonexistent, but theres still ppl on the forums, that arent playing, but still waiting for the game to be worht playing again. So now Gaz is like hmmm... Should we finish it off? Or just let it die and not bother with taking the time and effort to finish the Omega content for a dying game?

Its put them at a crossroads and theyre kinda flopping back and froth atm. They are finishing Omega, but slowly. Very slowly. I think theyre honestly kind of trying to let PC version just die off so they can focus on consoloes but dont want to say as much so they just keep telling people that theyre working on things.

I wouldnt be surprised in the least if one of the devs admits that theyre surprised this game is still alive and that they never intended for it to make it this long after the fiasco BUE caused.

@snow At the end of the day they have to answer to their investors and the license owner. They have to keep running the game until the license expires. Then they would just not renew it and focus on thier console platforms.

They could always build the game from the ground up and release it on PC as a new entity but I doubt they would do that if they ever let the licesnce expire and I doubt Marvel would renew under new conditions considering there are other companies out there more capable of handling their IP.

They've basically been trying to keep their head above water since Brevik left. So now they could give two Trash Panda! about what the players think. They're just trying to finally release a product that is consistant across all 3 platforms so they can finally start producing a game instead of working on these renovations for an old money pit (great movie btw).

The problem is they'll never be up and running efficiently becuase they lack true leadership. Someone needs to come in and completely restructure the company from the ground up.

Gaz should really take a few points from the Devs at DCUO about how to handle 2 systems. They've managed to keep both systems up to date and not abandon one of them and they mostly get things out on time too.

How is DCUO these days btw? I've heard that was good long ago, but now nobody really talks about it. I know that it could simply be just that the trend does, but I'd figure that they'd at least keep up the promotions or something to keep it on people's minds.

DCUO is a nice game Pyro, but I stopped to play it (twice) because the daily farm there is a nightmare unless you have a good group of friend or active guild to run the 5-man they have there. The noobs there are overwhelming.

Said that the PVP is engaging, raids are great and being able to create your own hero is nice, not many customization options but is ok.

My other problem is the paywalls of the game. But it's me, maybe you don't mind the prices and the system itself.

Yeah, DCUO is pretty fun, but.... I found it to be not very solo friendly at times. Especially during events.

      Was fun though.

Teleport is jealous of Rogue's shadow strike, minus the damage.

I don't use teleport much on Doom, I stack movement speed and outpace everyone. Sometimes geared with goat mask, 35-50℅ power radius increase, maybe motion analyzer. Regulate the whole damn screen. Melee peasant can't blitz me fast enough. Ranged? I play nothing but ARAMs in LoL, that's a life of dodging attacks 24/7
